Storm Summary and Projection: Hurricane Summary POSTED: August 1, 2014 11:03 p.m.
Iselle Becomes Hurricane
Iselle strengthened into a hurricane early Friday night and will continue to move westward over the open waters of the eastern Pacific Ocean through Friday night with no impact to land.
Iselle is centered approximately 1,300 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Iselle is very well organized, with good symmetry noted on satellite imagery. Iselle will likely
maintain its hurricane strength through early next week; relatively low wind shear and warm water lies ahead.
There will be no impact to land through at least the middle part of next week. However, after slowly weakening, Iselle may track toward Hawaii late next week as a tropical rainstorm.
Elsewhere, an area of showers and thunderstorms well east of Iselle could become better organized over the next couple of days. Should this area strengthen into a tropical storm, the next name in
the eastern Pacific is Julio.
